Discover Amami Sushi, A Bay Area Gem

Sushi has and always will be my favorite comfort meal. When it comes to sushi, I keep it simple. I’m not too fond of rolls, especially when they’re drenched in sauce and have too much going on. I rarely use soy sauce. I like my fish raw, fresh, and simple. You would think that because my preferences are so simple that I wouldn’t have a tough time finding a great spot, but honestly a great quality sushi restaurant is hard to come by!

Some of my favorite sushi restaurants in Los Angeles were Kazunori and Yunomi because they kept it simple, clean, and aded 0 bs to their menu. It’s safe to say I found my favorite spot in my new home city of San Francisco. Let’s talk about Amami Sushi and its killer $42 omakase, shall we?

What Makes Amami Sushi Worth It?

When it comes to sushi, the San Francisco Bay area is spoiled for choice, but there’s one place that stands above the rest, and of course, it’s this hole in the wall place – Amami Sushi. This sushi spot is loved by locals and visitors, known for crafting the most sensational yet simply made sushi.

Since opening its doors in 2012, Amami Sushi has been winning over customers with their passion for high-quality and delicious sushi and have since expanded to three different properties. My personal favorite is the San Bruno location! Independently owned and operated, the restaurant’s versatile Chef Alan consistently elevates the sushi dining experience, making it a premier destination for those who truly appreciate well made sushi.

One may wonder, what sets Amami Sushi apart? It all lies in the freshness of their seafood, the ambience of their restaurant, and how quick the service is.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always found fine dining sushi to be a bit pretentious. Amami Sushi is definitely not that. This is a hole in the wall sushi joint, making you feel right at home. There are no reservations required, and if you go early enough you’ll be seated immediately before the wave of people come.

I love that you can literally tell that the fish was caught that morning. They have such a great selection of the finest of the finest ingredients. They ensure the seafood, meat, and produce used in their dishes are absolutely fresh. Each sushi piece made in their kitchen is a beautiful blend of taste, texture, and aesthetic, an artist’s masterpiece you could say. I personally love sitting at the bar and watching the sushi chefs make my omakase platter and serve it to me immediately.

Speaking of omakase, it’s $42. It’s worth every single dollar. I was so shocked when I learned that I could get insanely great quality fish for just $42.

I love that you can complete your meal with oysters for #8, making this a $50 dinner that is sure to leave you feeling content and full.

I’m sure you can tell I absolutely love this place. If you find yourself craving sushi in the Bay Area, look no further. Amami Sushi is the place to be.
