WDYM you don’t get your hair done at Population Hair Salon?
With two locations, one in the Mission and another in NoPa, Population isn’t just a salon. It provides an experience that you wouldn’t find anywhere else in the city of San Francisco. This salon personifies the city’s eclectic and vibrant spirit.
With a brand philosophy that true beauty defies the confines of perfection, Population Hair Salon offers a unique blend of classic styles tinged with a modern, personalized edge. Exactly what San Francisco embodies as a city already.
When visiting the salon, you’ll feel like every stylist is your best friend. You’ll feel like they took a peek into your Spotify playlist (because they’re playing the exact songs you have saved in your likes). You’ll feel like you’re immersed in this beautiful oasis, courtesy of the countless of plants they have scattered aesthetically all throughout the salon.

Population Hair Salon, Mission District
498 14th St San Francisco, CA 94103
This is the one I frequent a lot. There’s so much open space, there’s always lively music playing, and it’s rare to see the salon without all its seats filled. They have a special room right around the corner that’s dedicated for photoshoots, meaning, prepare to get your photos taken in a studio like setting after getting your hair done. Not only do they have your hair covered, but they’ve also got your Instagram feed covered.
Population Hair Salon, Nopa Location
537 Divisadero St San Francisco, CA 94117
The Nopa location is for those who want a more quiet, lowkey vibe. It’s smaller and while they still play amazing music, it’s definitely catered for those who just want to get their hair done and out the door. I have no preference. Wherever my hair stylist, Frida, is assigned to the day we have our appointment, is where I’ll be.
Which, speaking of..
You’ll find the best hairstylist in San Francisco at Population Hair Salon: Frida Flores
While there are a team of incredible hair stylists on their roster, you can’t question my loyalty when it comes to Frida Flores.
I found out about Population Hair Salon while on a drive (I had just moved to San Francisco and was on the hunt for a hair stylist), and the name stood out to me immediately. I asked my boyfriend’s uncle (who was in the car with us) what Population Hair Salon was all about considering he lived right by it. He instantly said, “Oh – that’s where all the bougie b*tches go.”
I was curious to find out more about this Population Hair Salon, so I looked it up and knew immediately this was the place.
While scrolling through their Instagram and falling in love with the aesthetic of their page, I saw Frida as one of their hairstylists. I took a gander at her page, and thought to myself, yep this is the girl. I booked an appointment immediately.
I never once doubted Frida for her amazing hair cutting skills and hair color techniques. When I met her, I had long, (brassy) blonde hair, and she was the first hair stylist to ever dye my hair brown. I had been blonde for nearly 10 years prior to seeing her. She did an incredible job.
Blonde -> Brunette
Our first hair transformation was transitioning from blonde to brunette. She did a wonderful job curating the perfect brown hues with just a bit of golden chunks.

Long Brunette Hair -> Short Blonde Hair
A few months later, I decided to chop off all my hair and go blonde, as I was going to Europe for 2 months and wanted to completely revamp my look. Frida did a gorgeous job, making my vision come to life.
Short Blonde Hair -> French Bob
When I came back from Europe, I was heavily influenced by a lot of the Scandinavian girls I saw with their short, wavy bobs. I booked my first appointment as soon as I got back and went for the French bob look.

Now you know why this it the best hair salon in the Bay Area
This is the longest hair style I’ve kept. However I doubt it won’t be long until I’m struct by inspiration and want to chop all my hair off or try a new color that I haven’t tried before.
Hair is such a personal statement and has the power to impact your confidence – for better or for worse. I’m sure we’ve all come across a salon or a hair stylist that wasn’t welcoming or did a terrible job. It makes all the difference in the world when you find the perfect stylist and the perfect salon, ensuring that you’re confident with each stride you take and each hair flip you do.
All I’m saying is, Population Hair Salon is the best salon to get your hair done. I hope this convinced you to book your next appointment.
