Hed 11 Review: San Francisco’s Newest Thai Restaurant

There are so many reasons to love San Francisco. From the bountiful nature that surrounds the city, to the pristine Edwardian and Victorian homes that line its streets, and its vibrant restaurant scene that proudly highlights a multitude of cultural flavors worldwide. Which, speaking of, San Francisco’s vibrant dining scene has a thrilling new addition that’s making waves in Japantown. Hed 11, the delightful brainchild of Naruephon “Billie” Wannajaro from the acclaimed Hed Very Thai and Chef Piriya “Saint” Boonprasan, a Michelin starred chef, has firmly anchored its roots at inside of the Kimpton Hotel Enso.

The Art of the 11-Course Tasting Menu

The “11” in Hed 11 stands for the exquisitely and thoughtfully curated 11-course seasonal tasting menu. This is an homage to the restaurant’s name and Thai roots. Each dish is a culinary masterpiece, truly. I can’t even begin to describe what an experience it was to not only taste these, but see them visually.

Spring 2024 Seasonal Menu

Standout dishes grace this season’s menu, and you’ll find a wonderful play between textures and flavors with each bite you take.

Every single dish was delightful. Some that spoke to me included the young coconut caviar served on airy sticky rice pancakes, and a passionfruit Thai custard cheesecake, a memorable dessert that toes the line between tart and sweet impeccably. The khanom jeen sao nam absolutely stole my heart, and something I’ll constantly crave from this point on.

I loved the touch of nostalgia that each dish had, furthermore, as it enlightened the experience even more.

Gluten- and Dairy-Free Options

San Francisco will forever be renowned for its progressive dining options, and Hed 11 raises the bar with its commitment to gluten and dairy free dining. This conscientious approach transcends trend, ensuring that those with specific dietary preferences are not merely accommodated but celebrated.

The Sip Side of Hed 11

Enhance your experience further with their thoughtful pairings, showcasing a diverse collection of Japanese and Thai whiskeys and an impressive wine list, which can also complement the 11-course feast.

In Pursuit of the Stars

Service runs from Tuesday to Sunday, from 5 p.m. until the last plate is cleared. There might be a brunch menu coming as well, which is something I’m very excited for.

Hed 11 isn’t just chasing stars—it’s making waves in the restaurant scene in the city and beyond. I wouldn’t be surprised if the restaurant received its first star within its first year in business.

Could Hed11 be the best Thai restaurant in San Francisco? You tell me.

I hope this article helped you fall in love with Hed11 and inspires you to book a table soon. The experience is reasonably priced at $169 per person. I look forward to hearing what you think of this stunning restaurant.
