For any road trip through Northern California, I recommend spending a few days in Marin County. It offers treasures like Sausalito, Stinson Beach, Mill Valley, and Point Reyes, which perfectly encapsulate the essence of this magical land. Who could resist the inviting allure of sitting in a cozy café, gazing out at the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful view of San Francisco in the distance, and not feel the surge of creativity? Speaking of, if you’re a fan of Shel Silverstein, you’d be pleased to know that the enchanting water homes that you see while driving on the 101 North inspired him to write many of his best works.
You’ll find that Sausalito is the perfect place for taking leisurely strolls, as you’ll find breathtaking views as your constant companion. The overwhelming plethora of natural beauty couples pleasingly with the city’s abundant luxury accommodations. Here, elegant lodging experiences coexist seamlessly with exhilarating water activities and intriguing outdoor hiking opportunities, making Sausalito a destination as kinetic as it is peaceful. Further elevating its charm is its pedestrian-friendly environment, full of easily accessible and enchanting avenues that invite visitors for meandering strolls.
I have yet to do this myself, but there’s a walkable path from San Francisco right to Sausalito, across the Golden Gate Bridge. In Sausalito, there is something for everyone, from the relaxation seeker to the adventurous at heart.

Sausalito is Spanish for “small willow grove,” and it was derived from the small willow trees ‘saucito’ that grew along the banks in the region.
Where to Stay in Sausalito: Cavallo Point
I can assure you that a stay at Cavallo Point will make you say, “This is just the place that I was looking for.” Nestled at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge, this property offers a beautiful blend of natural beauty, history, luxury, and sustainability; which are all the things I absolutely love.
The resort offers two uniquely charming accommodation experiences: staying in historic buildings that were built in the 19th century, and contemporary lodgings designed with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. Both options provide an exceptional level of comfort and style.
There are two restaurants, Sula and Farley’s, that are both known for their mouthwatering dishes. I enjoyed my dinner at Farley’s and have yet to try Sula. There was nothing like drinking a glass of lavender soda while admiring the beautiful view that is the Golden Gate Bridge. Just that view alone is worth every single penny.
There’s also the Healing Arts Center & Spa which offers wellness activities for all guests. I look forward to returning for a spa treatment in the near future.

A Glimpse into the Contemporary Suite at Cavallo Point
I had the pleasure of staying at one of the contemporary suites, and there was just something about it that I really loved. These buildings were built 15 years ago, and I love that while still contemporary and modern, it takes you back in time just a little bit. The aesthetic was very classy and comfortable. There was definitely some nostalgia, but I just can’t pinpoint exactly what I felt being in the room. It felt like I was in a film from a early 2000s. The room was gorgeous and homey at the same time. My favorite part of the room was the little nook that allows you to look at Cavallo Point and the Golden Gate Bridge. It was nice working there with a cup of coffee, just indulging in that beautiful view.
I loved sleeping in the giant cloud of a bed with all the windows wide open, inviting the cool ocean air to surround my boyfriend and I as we slept soundly. We really enjoyed the room, from watching the football game on the TV while eating the snacks provided for us in the room, taking a bubble bath after dinner, and working with a view of the bridge, it made saying goodbye so hard.
The Best Dinner Spot in Sausalito is Farley’s at Cavallo Point
I loved dinner at Farley’s. The service, the food, the ambiance – they all made for such a memorable night. I could sit outside at that porch all evening. It does get chilly at night, however the staff provides you with a blanket as well as some heaters.
With oysters from Tomales Bay paired with Chardonnay from the California coast to start, and delicious white chocolate mocha cheesecake and toffee pudding to finish off a feast, my tummy was very happy with me at the end of the night.
Morning Yoga at Cavallo Point
The property offers morning yoga for all guests from 8 to 9. I absolutely loved it. I loved waking up in the morning, getting coffee at the lobby, then walking up to the chapel to do some morning stretches. It was such a beautiful way to start the day, and I’ve never done yoga inside of a chapel before, so that was a very memorable experience.
Renting Out the Lexus Vehicles at Cavallo Point
I found this super exciting! Cavallo Point has a collection of Lexus vehicles for guests to rent out and take out for a spin to explore Marin County. It’s first come first serve, and I was so happy to see that the RC F was available for me to rent for the afternoon. I drove my boyfriend and I to Mill Valley, where we enjoyed delicious coffee at Equator, and yummy poke burritos at Hook Fish. The car girl in me was pleased to see this!
