About the Avril Lavigne and Banshee Wines Collaboration
The collaboration between Avril Lavigne and Banshee Wines brings together pop culture and Sonoma winemaking in a way that is both genuine and unexpected.
The story behind this partnership started backstage with bottles enjoyed during her Greatest Hits tour, inspiring the launch of the Complicated pinot noir.
Why “Complicated Pinot Noir”?
It’s a tribute to her signature hit “Complicated,” making this not just a wine, but a piece of music history. Cue the nostalgia!
About Banshee Wines
Banshee Wines, part of the Foley Family Wines Portfolio, has deep roots in the Bay Area and is renowned for its authentic approach and minimal intervention.
The brand’s story began all the way back in 2009 in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco, where three friends hustled to source just eight barrels of now-coveted Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Their vision was clear from the start: to create distinctive, captivating wines that embodied the best of California’s terroir, all without pretense.
Fueled by this entrepreneurial spirit, Banshee quickly became known for small-batch quality and a progressive take on winemaking. As its popularity grew, the team sought out new opportunities to connect with wine lovers. Banshee soon found a permanent home in the heart of Healdsburg, Sonoma—cementing its reputation as one of the region’s fastest-growing premium wine labels.
In November 2023, after outgrowing their Healdsburg location, Banshee Wines made an exciting move to an expansive new tasting room in Geyserville. This state-of-the-art facility offers wine flights, exclusive releases, and immersive hospitality—where visitors can experience that original Dogpatch spirit with a modern wine country vibe.
Here, Banshee continues its legacy of authenticity, minimal intervention, and bold creativity—making it a favorite for locals, tourists, and now, pop culture collaborations like the Complicated Pinot Noir!

Launch Party Recap
While Avril Lavigne wasn’t there in person, the Complicated Pinot Noir launch party at MacArthur Place Sonoma was still a true celebration of both music and wine, bringing together an exclusive group of guests in a luxurious, thoughtfully curated setting.
There was an undeniable sense of curiosity and excitement throughout the event. With her songs playing in the background, an assortment of small bites to pick from, and a collection of wines to sip from beyond the Complicated Pinot Noir, the launch party was memorable and sweet. Guests were mingling, talking about how Avril’s music was integral to their teen years while also sharing their love of wine. The juxtaposition of both conversation topics (punk rock and wine tasting) was a combo I’ve ever expected to experience in Sonoma, speaking candidly.
About the Wine: Complicated Pinot Noir
The tasting notes for the Complicated Pinot Noir include ripe cherry and raspberry aromas, layered with a touch of spice and subtle vanilla. The palate is velvety, delicious, and would pair beautifully with a vanilla cheesecake.
Winemaking details:
- Grape Origins: The team at Banshee actually sourced grapes from all over California, not just exclusive to Sonoma, which was an interesting take on creating this pinot noir.
- Style: Modern, fruit-driven, minimal intervention
- Price and availability: This limited edition bottle is $30, and only available for purchase at the Banshee website.
Is it worth purchasing?
The wine itself definitely delivers on flavor, value, and occasion fit. I know that there’s always that stigma that celebrities shouldn’t produce their own alcohol, but when you actually taste Complicated Pinot Noir, it quickly breaks the stereotype.
Unlike some celebrity launches that feel more like a branding exercise, this wine genuinely delivers in both flavor and personality. It’s proof that when the story and the craft align, the result can be something truly worth celebrating.
Who will enjoy this wine the most?
Avril Lavigne fans will undoubtedly enjoy this wine the most! But if you’re a wine lover and prefer a sweeter pinot noir, you’ll love this. This honestly would be perfect for hosting dinner parties at home with the girls or for a date night at home with your partner.
An Inside Scoop on this Partnership:
